Plot
14-year-old Ong-Bak (Kongkhao Lekboonpisit) is a poor boy who lives with his aunt and uncle in Thailand. One day, when he is in the market with his aunt, Ong-Bak sees a beautiful girl and is immediately enamored with her. However, as the girl is carrying large amount of merchandise, she does not have the time to talk to him. She says she lives in a house where a girl from the market would find a kind heart and help her out. Ong-Bak becomes enthusiastic and promises to visit the girl on the next day, but he has to take care of his cat.
The next day, the aunt takes Ong-Bak to the girl's house and they pay the girl to buy their cat, but the girl finds the cat more cute than the boy. The girl gives Ong-Bak some herbal medicine for his cat, and soon after, the cat recovers. Ong-Bak promises to pay for the medicine. On his way home, the girl pulls him by the hand, saying that she will take him to her house and she will look for his cat as well.
At the girl's house, she introduces herself as Somboon and says her mother is asleep. Somboon tells Ong-Bak about her father and explains that he was sent to the army and that Somboon and her mother are too poor to pay for her father's medical bills. Somboon promises that she will look after Ong-Bak and show him how to be a good human being. She tells him that her father will be home very soon, and that he will take care of his cat for a few days.
The girl then teaches Ong-Bak how to fight. She teaches him kong-kon (basically tapping your opponent's hand with a stick or bamboo, used to show that the opponent's are cheating) and the girl also teaches Ong-Bak how to defend himself when he is being bullied by his classmates. Somboon then teaches him how to cook and they prepare a simple meal for him
